Therapy provides the opportunity to be guided towards a better understanding of problems and concerns while it helps find pathways towards resolution and change. My approach to therapy utilizes collaboration and emotional support combined with the awareness that the unique cultural identities that all individuals possess are integral to the therapeutic process. The therapeutic alliance is an essential aspect of therapy, and I understand that entering into therapy can often be challenging for individuals.
The individual adults I work with often present with a number of concerns, including depression, anxiety, interpersonal relationship conflicts, sexual, affectional and gender identity concerns, grief and loss, and major life transition or life adjustment concerns. I utilize motivational interviewing, psychodynamic therapy, and gay affirmative therapy with clients from the LGBTQIA community. I view my clients through a multicultural lens, recognizing that each individual holds a unique identity. Respect and empowerment to change are at the core of my approach to therapy.
